Liverpool are confident that Benfica’s signing with Darwin Nunes is a “low risk” despite the strong concerns of fierce rival Manchester United.
The Reds are approaching the signing of the Uruguayan national with a preliminary fee of 80 million euros (68 million British pounds) with additional bonuses discussed by the Portuguese press. Liverpool were not the only team interested in making a move for Nunes this summer, after his impressive season with 34 goals.
United watched the striker in order to strengthen their ability to attack before the debut season of Eric ten Haag, at the head of Old Trafford. However, the Red Devils have decided to retire from Nunes due to fears that they may pay more for the wanted frontman.

Almeria sporting director Joao Goncalves tried to allay those fears after seeing Nunes up close and in person during his stay at the Spanish club before moving to Benfica in 2020. Speaking to Radio Renascença Bola Branca, he said: ” I understand your fears, but believe me, this is a low-risk operation.
“If nothing strange happened, the player would be sold at least two or three times more. I’m glad that things are going in that direction. “
Although Liverpool appear to be close to a deal for Nunes, there will be some concerns about his ability to adapt to the notorious intensity of the Premier League. However, Goncalves said the striker will not need time and can take on English football like a duck on water.

He continued: “He will have no problem adapting. Darwin is modest, has talent, a winning mentality and a great ability to work. ”
If so, Liverpool will certainly be relieved. If Nunes completes his transfer to Anfield, he will play an important role in the Reds’ attack. The current striker Sadio Mane is linked with a move to Bayern Munich, after he expressed his desire to leave Anfield, leaving only one year of his contract.

Nunes, on the other hand, was already enjoying Merseyside during his nascent career. The 22-year-old opened the net during every match of the quarterfinals of the Benfica Champions League with Liverpool.
Jürgen Klopp praised Nunes for his performances, saying: “[He’s] Really good, really good. I knew him before, but he played a lot in front of me. Physically strong, fast, he was calm with his finish. Really good. If he stays healthy, he has a great career ahead of him. ”
