Canada’s Brooke Henderson claims 11th victory in LPGA Tour with ShopRite LPGA Classic

As Lindsay Weaver-Wright completed her round of the ShopRite LPGA Classic, Brooke Henderson of Canada prepared.

Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ont., Had a one-shot lead over the American, but at 18 with a par-5, the Canadian knew the playoffs were a clear opportunity. Of course, Weaver-Wright drilled the hole and imposed an additional golf hole at the LPGA event.

Henderson had made the most of her time waiting for Weaver-Wright to prepare.

“It was a bit of a long wait, which makes it difficult,” Henderson said. “I just tried to eat a lot to get energy, and then I just went to the locker room and just thought.

“I was just grateful for the opportunity to go out there.”

Henderson’s training paid off in the eagle of the playoffs – again on par-5 № 18 at Seaview Bay Course in Galloway, New Jersey – to win his 11th LPGA Tour title. She was already the most profitable professional golfer in Canadian history, but her latest victory added to her continuing legacy.

Brooke Henderson of Canada takes ShopRite LPGA Classic for its 11th victory in the LPGA Tour

Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ont., Beat Lindsay Weaver-Wright in the playoffs to win the ShopRite LPGA Classic in Galloway, New Jersey.

It started on Sunday the ninth, well behind the Swede Frida Kinhult, the leader in the tournament after two rounds. But Kinhult failed on Sunday with a round of 4 over when Henderson came out, shooting with three birds and an eagle on the front nine to close the gap by adding two more birds on the back nine for a round of 7 less.

“To start the day, if they said, ‘You’re in the playoffs for victory,’ I’d be very happy,” Henderson said. “I was just trying to think that way. With the playoffs, you really only have one chance, so you have to do your best and go to win.

“I just tried to hit hard and I managed to make an eagle there, which is really great.”

Weaver-Wright, who finished the round after Henderson, played his last two holes to level the Canadian with a total of 12 fewer and boost the playoffs.

Rumors of Henderson’s victory at the PBA Tour’s RBC Canadian Open at the St. George’s Golf and Country Club in Toronto have spread north of the border.

Corey Connors of Listwell, Ont., Who was the short Canadian at the National Men’s Golf Championship, was thrilled to hear the news.

“I am overwhelmed. She is incredibly talented. Of all the Canadians, congratulations Brooke, this is really special, “said Connors, who was a teammate of Henderson in the Canadian Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021. The eleven victories in the LPGA Tour are so amazing and I’m sure she is far from is done with that.

“She’s an amazing young lady and obviously an amazing player. So congratulations, well done and enjoy a nice holiday.”
