The blockade was lifted at Mississauga High School

Mississauga High School was temporarily closed on Tuesday afternoon after a student was spotted with a weapon that turned out to be a fake, Peel Regional Police said.

At around 1:10 p.m., police responded to a call with dangerous weapons at St. Aloysius Gonzaga High School, near Winston Churchill Boulevard and Erin Mills Boulevard.

Police said there were reports of a student walking down the hall with a gun.

As a result, Gonzaga was locked up, and the nearby John Fraser High School was detained and secured.

The student was found a little later and the police confirmed that the weapon they had was a fake.

There are no reports of threats or injuries.

It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post.

An hour after the incident was reported, police tweeted that blocking and detention and security had been lifted in both schools.

Police say there is no longer any danger to public safety.
