Monday, June 13, 2022, 7:47 p.m. – The Eastern Prairies are threatened by thunderstorms during the pre-dawn hours of Tuesday morning, with some night storms likely to become severe. Stay alert!
While the western prairies see excessive rainfall to start the week, the eastern part faces the threat of thunderstorms, potentially severe in southern Manitoba, until early Tuesday morning. Heavy rain and strong winds would be the main threat with these intensifying storms. After all, they can be classified as a mesoscale convective system (MCS), a group of strong thunderstorms. MONDAY EVENING / TUESDAY EARLY MORNING: SEVERE THREAT THREAT IN THE EASTERN PRORIES
While parts of southern Alberta and Saskatchewan are coping with extreme rainfall until Wednesday, with up to 150 mm possible in the worst-affected areas, the eastern part of the region is battling a serious storm on Monday night.
Towards the eastern prairies, a large cluster of thunderstorms has the potential to reach severe standards just before dawn in southeastern Saskatchewan and southern Manitoba. The main threats are localized floods and destructive winds.
MUST SEE: Why night thunderstorms can be especially dangerous
“Heavy rains and strong gusts of wind would be the main threat if any storms intensify, but with some wind cuts in southeastern Saskatchewan, stronger storms that are developing will also need to be monitored for rotation,” Kelly warns. Sonnenburg, meteorologist at The Meteorological Network.
