Dr. Anthony Fauci, the leader of the US government’s response to the Covid pandemic, tested positive for coronavirus.
Fauci, who has been fully vaccinated and twice boosted against Covid, is experiencing mild symptoms, according to a statement Wednesday from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases he heads.
“Dr. Fauci will be isolated and will continue to work from home,” the statement said. “He has not had close contact with the president recently [Joe] Biden or other senior government officials. “
In addition to being director of NIAID, a division of the National Institutes of Health, Fauci is also Biden’s chief medical adviser.
NIAID said in a statement that Fauci would follow the Covid-19 guidelines issued by the Federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and “seek medical advice from his doctor and return to the NIH when tested negative.”
