OTTAWA –
Michelle Rempel Garner, a longtime Conservative MP from Calgary, says she is withdrawing from the race for federal Conservative leadership to consider running for Jason Kenny.
Rempel Garner co-chaired Patrick Brown’s leadership campaign when Kenny stunned many last month, announcing his resignation as Alberta’s prime minister and leader of the United Conservative Party after barely surviving a leadership review.
Rempel Garner’s name soon began to spread as a potential successor to Kenny.
She confirmed on Twitter that she had been encouraged to run and was “seriously considering” her candidacy for UCP leadership.
Rempel Garner says he will withdraw from the Conservative leadership race to focus on potential leadership.
In his own statement on Twitter, Brown thanked Rempel Garner for his contribution to his campaign and wished her success in her deliberations.
