A man who is directly familiar with the deal said the Houston Rockets are the center of Christian Wood, their top scorer and bounced this season, the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for four players and draft selection.
Boban Maryanovich, Trey Burke, Stirling Brown and Marquis Chris are going to the Rockets, who will also receive number 26 this year, according to a spokesman for the Associated Press on condition of anonymity, as the trade has not been finalized.
It will not be finalized until the June 23 draft, the man said.
This is a major move for the Mavericks, after Wood averaged 17.9 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. He was one of nine players with an average of at least 17 points and 10 rebounds, joining Joel Embiid of Philadelphia, Janice Adetokunmpo of Milwaukee, two-time MVP Nikola Jokic of Denver, Bam Adebayo of Miami, Domantas Sabonis of Sacramento. Chiansi from New Orleans Vucevic and Deandre Ayton from Phoenix.
Wood enters the final season of a three-year, $ 41 million contract. He revealed to reporters in Houston last week that he had preliminary talks with the Rockets for an extension, although it is not known if one side has abstained or it has just become clear that he will not be on the team’s long-term plans.
Houston is also No. 3 in the draft, with Jabari Smith of Auburn, Chet Holmgren of Gonzaga and Paolo Banchero of Duke most likely to be selected. Orlando chose No. 1, followed by Oklahoma City at No. 2, and there was much speculation that Banchero would fall to the Rockets.
Wood had an average of 50% shooting this season, including 39% of the 3-point range. Dallas will be the 26-year-old’s seventh team in seven NBA seasons after staying in Philadelphia, Charlotte, Milwaukee, New Orleans, Detroit and Houston.
His breakthrough began in eight games with the Pelicans in 2018-19, averaging 16.9 points. He averaged 21.0 points with the Rockets last season, for the first time as a full-time starter, and has played in a maximum of 68 career games with Houston this season.
