As of today, public transport users in Quebec are no longer required to wear masks.
The province introduced a mandate for the COVID-19 mask for indoor public spaces and public transport in the summer of 2020.
In mid-May, it became the last province to remove the requirement to cover the face for indoor public spaces, and in the future, authorities say wearing a mask will be a personal choice.
Masks are still mandatory in hospitals, long-term care homes and other healthcare facilities.
The Quebec government announced a plan to remove masks on public transport 10 days ago, a decision that was backed by provincial public health officials.
In the latest data released on Friday, health officials in Quebec reported 1,029 people hospitalized with the disease, including 26 in intensive care.
