The woman, who was appointed to councilor in Toronto District 1 until the end of her current term, resigned hours after she was appointed by the majority of municipal councilors.
Rosemary Brian left the post as heir to the former Earl. Michael Ford appeared after homophobic posts on social networks.
The posts were shared on Twitter by Jonathan Goldsby, a news website and news editor on the Canadaland podcast network.

“I’m so devastated that previous social media posts I’ve made are now throwing against my decade-long commitment to the community,” Brian said in a statement Friday night.
“I don’t want to make anyone in our city feel unloved and part of our community.”

Brian was selected from 21 candidates to run for the old seat on Ford’s board for the remainder of the council’s term, the city said. She told councilors she worked for the Salvation Army.
She would remain in place until November 14.
Brian would also be the third to be appointed to the council for the remainder of his term.
Earlier, the Toronto City Council appointed the former earl. Joe Michewz to replace Joe Cressy and Robin Buxton Potts to take the place of NDP MPP Christine Wong-Tam.

Twenty-one of the 23 councilors present on Friday voted in favor of Brian’s appointment, made on the same day that Michael Ford was appointed by his uncle, Prime Minister Doug Ford, to serve as Ontario’s Secretary of Citizenship and Multiculturalism.
“These posts are not acceptable to a Toronto city councilor,” Toronto Mayor John Torrey said in a statement. He said he would not have voted in favor of Brian if he had known about her social media posts before.
“I do not completely agree with any homophobic or transphobic views. I absolutely support our 2SLGBTQ + residents, “he said. “City councilors are expected to set an example when it comes to consistency with our shared values.

Torrey said municipal officials would reconsider the process of vetting recruits after the revaluation.
“I admit that the councilors did not know about these posts before today’s discussion, and now that they are, I admit that many would not vote for me,” Brian said.
