Florida man who took 2 women hostage killed in police shootout: sheriff’s office

Florida lawmakers were involved in a violent shootout Saturday night with a suspect who allegedly took two women hostage.

The Brevard County Sheriff said the chase preceded the shooting, starting in Osceola County, then through Indian River County and ending in Brevard County.

The suspect, lawmakers said, was a suspected man who took two women hostage. The suspect fired “numerous rounds” at the sheriff’s deputies. At one point, he dumped one of the women and crashed in a wooded area of ​​Brevard County, according to the sheriff’s office.

The suspect released one of the hostages, but took the other with him deeper into the woods. Law enforcement officers from multiple services are pursuing the suspects.

Officers fired on the suspect, killing him after he fired a weapon at them, lawmakers said.

Deputies later identified the suspect as 42-year-old Curtis Kimbrow of Cocoa Beach. They said they had a long criminal record and were last released from the Florida Corrections Department after serving a five-year sentence for methamphetamine trafficking and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Both victims were rescued and treated for injuries, one of which was a gunshot wound.

“He was a very violent man who was going to kill these two victims,” ​​Sheriff Wayne Ivey said in a video posted on Facebook. “He would do everything possible to harm our deputies and officers.
