Eight states are holding primary or runoff elections on Tuesday, the first election since the Supreme Court overturned the remarkable Rowe v. Wade case.
CBS News predicts that Representative Lauren Boubert will win the Republican primary in the 3rd house in Colorado. Bowbert, a controversial conservative new member of Congress, had the approval of former President Donald Trump.
Trump is hovering over the race for the top job in the Colorado election. Incumbent Secretary of State Jena Griswald, a Democrat, is not opposed to her primary election. CBS News predicts that Pam Anderson will win the Republican nomination for secretary of state in Colorado.
Anderson faced two Republicans: Mike O’Donnell and Tina Peters. Asked by the Colorado Sun if the 2020 election was “stolen,” one candidate said yes.
“This is a personal opinion, based on the evidence I have seen and reviewed, and based on what I know from our reports. I believe there may have been enough fraud to reverse the election,” she told the newspaper.

Peters was accused earlier this year of violating the security of her county’s electoral system. In addition, her judge banned her from observing the 2022 election in Mesa County, in part because of the violation,
One of her opponents, Mike O’Donnell, told the Colorado Sun that she could not “say yes or no” to the question of whether the 2020 election was stolen. Anderson, a former Jefferson County clerk and registrar and former executive director of the Colorado County Employees Association, was the only Republican candidate to say no.
In Illinois, redirection has sparked some competition between starters against starters. CBS News projects Member Sean Kasten will win the Democratic nomination, defeating the main challenge from MP Marie Newman. Both were only parts of the newly drawn 6th District, which is considered solid blue.
Kasten’s 17-year-old daughter died earlier this month. In a concession speech, Newman called for the party to come together.
In Illinois County 15, CBS News predicted that Republican Mary Miller won the Republican nomination for a seat in the House. She was running for Trump against another incumbent, Rodney Davis. Davis, who was one of the Republicans who voted to set up a commission to investigate the January 6 attack.
Over the weekend, Miller told a rally surrounded by Trump that Rowe’s decision to repeal was “a victory for the lives of whites from the Supreme Court.” Her campaign said she had misread the prepared remarks.
Davis relented on Tuesday night to Miller, saying he was looking forward to “a campaign with every Republican up and down in Illinois between now and November to ensure we get our state back and Congress.”
Co-chair of Trump’s 2020 campaign, Davis congratulated Trump and Miller on their victory. He was also one of the Republicans working to set up an independent commission to investigate the January 6 attack on the US Capitol, although that commission was later abandoned and Democrats set up an elected commission instead.
In the race for governor, CBS predicts that current governor JB Pritzker has won the Democratic primary.
In the Republican primary, CBS News predicted that Illinois Darren Bailey defeated Aurora Mayor Richard Irwin, who was funded by $ 50 million by Republican megadonor Ken Griffin. Griffin said he would not support the Republican candidate if he was not Irwin, and criticized Democratic groups for their external spending to encourage Bailey. “The unprecedented tens of millions of dollars spent by Pritzker and the National Democrats in the primary Republican election to avoid facing Richard in the general election have shown that he is the right candidate,” Griffin said in a statement. In his rebate speech, Irwin said he hoped Pritzker “was wrong in his assessment that he could easily defeat an opponent against whom he had paid tens of millions of dollars.”
In New York, CBS News predicts that New York Governor Kathy Hochul will win the Democratic nomination for governor. She had two main contenders: Long Island representative Tom Swansea and New York Public Defender Jumaan Williams.
CBS News predicts that Republican Lee Zeldin will win the Republican nomination for governor. Zeldin of East Long Island faced three contenders, Rob Astrorino, Harry Wilson and Andrew Giuliani, the son of Trump’s ally Rudy Giuliani.
In Utah, two-term Republican Sen. Mike Lee, one of Trump’s closest allies, defeated two main contenders, former U.S. lawmaker Becky Edwards and businesswoman Ali Izom. Neither voted for Trump, according to the Associated Press. Lee will face independent Conservative Evan McMullin in November. The Utah Democratic Party has backed McMullin, a longtime critic of Trump, instead of nominating a candidate.
Republican Mike Flood won a special election for the House of Representatives in the 1st Congressional District of Nebraska. Flood will serve the remainder of Representative Jeff Fortenbury’s term. Fortenbury was sentenced on Tuesday to two years probation for lying to federal authorities about illegal contributions to the campaign.
Flood defeated Democrat Patti Pansing Brooks in a special election. Both candidates won their respective primary elections to seek a full term and will face each other in a rematch in November.
