New York Democratic Mayor Eric Adams has suggested that Rudy Giuliani exaggerated the alleged incident with an attack on a State Island supermarket, saying on Tuesday that “false reporting of a crime is a crime.”
“I watched the video and someone has to remind former Mayor Giuliani that false crime reporting is a crime,” Adams told reporters Tuesday, the day Giuliani’s son, Andrew Giuliani, faced other Republican candidates in the gubernatorial post. competition during the primary elections.

The video from the observation of the meeting, received from the New York Post, shows that the suspect walks behind Giuliani and hits him once on the back with an open hand.
Giuliani described it as a “very, very heavy blow” in a Facebook video on Monday.

But the suspect’s defense team, identified as 39-year-old grocery store employee Daniel Gill, said it was nothing more than a pat. Adams describes the incident in a similar way.
“When you watch the video, the man actually walked over and patted him on the back,” Adams said on Tuesday, according to The Guardian. “It was clear he hadn’t been hit in the head. It was clear he didn’t feel like a bullet. It was clear he wasn’t going to fall to the ground.”
The current mayor claims that “the district attorney has the wrong person to investigate.”

Gil’s charges were dropped on Monday and he was released on remand.
Originally charged with second-degree assault, he now faces charges of third-degree assault, third-degree threat and second-degree harassment.

“Given Mr. Giuliani’s obsession with seeing his name in the press and his demonstrated tendency to distort the truth, we are happy to correct the recording of exactly what happened over the weekend on Staten Island,” the Legal Aid Society, which represents Gil , said in a statement, according to FOX 5 NY.
