Wimbledon 2022: British warning – defeat for Peniston

Steve Johnson finished against Ryan Penniston of Britain on court 3 to end the victory 6-3 6-2 6-4.

It was a brilliant swing of grass for Peniston, but his SW19 run ended here. Lots of hope for the future, though.

Wimbledon 2022: Upset signal

Number two Annette Contewhite dropped out after a shocking but comprehensive defeat by world number 97 Jules Niemeyer on court № 1.

This is another disappointing performance of the Grand Slam for Kontaveit – which has not yet advanced beyond the quarterfinals of the Grand Slam.

The 6-4 6-0 victory for Niemeyer seems surprising, but Contaveite did not intend to go far in this tournament.

Wimbledon 2022: * Novak Djokovic 6-1 2-1 Tanassi Kokinakis – Djokovic breaks

Djokovic puts his nose in front, but Kokinakis responds with an ace and then a big serve in width. When the points are extended, however, the Australian fights and he makes forehand nets under little pressure.

He is approaching a break point as Djokovic raises his hands after trimming the net rope in a backhand drop shot.

Djokovic receives a rocket at a big service from Kokinakis and enters the net just to pull for a long time. Kokinakis then came forward with a strong forehand shot in the corner.

However, he could not close and then another forehand to Djokovic’s backhand spread widely. Another breakpoint and that’s too good.

Djokovic snapped a backhand return to Kokinakis and then followed with a forehand along the line to eliminate a volley in the net. A long way back for the Australian.

Djokovic handles the exchange of branches by placing Kokinakis in the net. The comfortable hold for Djokovic and Kokinakis is struggling to get closer to his serve at the moment.

Wimbledon 2022: * Novak Djokovic 6-1 0-1 Tanassi Kokinakis

Now, can Kokinakis keep his head up? Losing the first one 6-1 will hurt, but the love of holding to start the second set will increase his confidence. Great serving for the tall and big Australian, while Djokovic netted at the turning point in the game.

Wimbledon 2022: Novak Djokovic 6-1 Tanassi Kokinakis * – Djokovic wins first set

Very convenient for Djokovic, as he steps for service and volley to move to 40-0. Another volley for a pickup is too agile and he races to the first set in 30 minutes.

Wimbledon 2022: * Novak Djokovic 5-1 Tanassi Kokinakis – Djokovic breaks

Kokinakis faces another pressure point at 15-30 and while Djokovic shoots back at his feet, the Australian goes wide on the forehand.

Kokinakis responds with an ace, then Djokovic nets. Kokinakis nets to bring another breakthrough point, but holds on as he forces Djokovic to continue swapping the net.

Back to a pair, better than Kokinakis, and Djokovic’s backhand slice is widely worn. However, Kokinakis could not escape while Djokovic entered the rally.

And there is the rest. A brilliant drop-shot from Djokovic and Kokinakis can’t get him into the other net.

Wimbledon 2022: Novak Djokovic 4-1 * Tanassi Kokinakis

Kokinakis boarded up to 30, but Djokovic gave a quick response when Kokinakis’s lobe deviated long from the baseline.

Wimbledon 2022: Ryan Penniston * 3-6, 2-6, 2-2 Stevie Johnson

Better than Peniston, who digs to hold twice in a row for the first time since the first set. It was still too easy for Johnson with his own service, and all sorts of glances at a possible breakthrough were few.

Djokovic immediately broke into the center and consolidated with a quick hold – this already looks ominous for his Australian opponent here.
