Alessia Russo helped England to victory in final Euro warm-up – Man United News and Transfer News

Manchester United striker Alessia Russo helped the English Lionesses to another victory in their final warm-up before the Euros.

The 23-year-old, who has just finished a fantastic season with the Reds, also won man of the match for his contribution in the 4-0 win over Switzerland.

It was all straight at half-time and there was nothing to separate the two teams in a goalless first half.

The young Red created a number of opportunities for the Lionesses before and after the halfway mark.

Russo opened the scoring in the 58th minute, heading in a superb cross from Rachel Daly.

City’s Georgia Stanway converted a penalty and moments later Beth England made it three with another header. In the final seconds, Jill Scott put the game to bed with a close-range shot.

The scoreline did not reflect the game but Switzerland had numerous chances but failed to capitalize on them and England punished them.

England begin their Euro campaign at Old Trafford next week when they face Austria.

They enter the tournament on a 14-game unbeaten run under Sarina Wiegmann and are favorites to win the trophy.

Alessia Russo will be hoping to go big in the campaign after the year she has had and this performance will go a long way towards her inclusion in the team sheet.

Ella Tone, who has also impressed Wiegman since becoming Lionesses manager, came on as a substitute tonight.

Mary Earps was in goal tonight and a clean sheet will no doubt serve her well when it comes to team selection in the coming weeks.
