Paula Badosa defended the Wimbledon all-white dress rule after the tradition was rejected by Nick Kyrgios.
The fourth placed said it was “nice” to play in all-white clothes for two weeks a year, days after the Australian said he wanted the chance to wear all-black.
Wimbledon’s all-white clothing policy is often controversial, from people like Kyrgios who say it’s not “cool” to many who point to the problem it raises for menstruating players. But world number 4 Badosa admitted that she likes to play in strict clothing for two weeks of the season and complimented the tradition.
Asked if she would like to see a change in policy, the Spaniard said: “No, I think it’s nice and traditional.” The 24-year-old spoke after reaching the third round with a 6-3 6-3 victory over Irina Bara.
“It’s always different,” she continued. “I think the grass courts are also a different part of the season. It’s nice to play like that, I think. One or two weeks a year, it’s always nice and unique.”
