The Pedestrian Mall at Downtown St. John’s returned for the third summer in a row and brought with it an event not seen in the area in several decades.
The city says pop-up performances will happen at the mall throughout the summer and will use some of the $105,000 in Come Home Year funding to stage four concerts outside the courthouse.
Mayor Danny Breen says similar concerts in front of the courthouse were shelved during the pedestrian mall’s original iteration in 1970, and they will return to it this summer.
St John councilor Ophelia Ravencroft says weather permitting concerts will be held on Saturdays throughout the summer.
She says the events will begin on July 16 and will include artists such as Kellie Loder, the Kubasonics and the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra.
The concerts will take place on July 16 and 23 and on August 13 and 27. Mayor Breen says in case of inclement weather the concerts will be postponed until Sunday.
