Another day, another disaster for Boris Johnson. Senior Conservative MP Chris Pincher resigned on Thursday after he allegedly got drunk and groped two men at a private members’ club in London. “I drank too much last night,” Pincher wrote to Johnson in his resignation letter. “I have embarrassed myself and other people, which is the last thing I want to do, and for that I apologize to you and to those affected.” Pincher has stood down from his job as the Tories’ deputy chief whip – the figure responsible for party discipline – but is amazingly willing to stay on as a legislator, despite cries of protest from the opposition. This is actually the second time Pincher has resigned from the whips’ office; in 2017 he stepped down after being accused of making unwanted advances to a former Olympic rower. News of Pincher’s resignation comes after the Tory leader resigned last week following a humiliating twin election defeat for Johnson’s party.
