Democrats raise $80 million after Supreme Court abortion ruling

In just the first week after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Democrats managed to rack up an impressive $80 million in donations.

Democratic fundraising platform ActBlue reported the figure, which indicates a possible rally for Democrats heading into the 2022 election.

However, most of the donated funds were given to national campaigns, not local or state political projects, according to the Associated Press. Without a strong presence at the state level, Democrats may find themselves on the chopping block for the next congressional and presidential elections.

“We can no longer afford the Democrats’ systematic neglect of down-vote races — not when Republicans are eager to meddle in our health care, bedroom and marriage decisions,” a spokesman for the Legislative Campaign Committee told the publication. of the Democratic Party Gabriel Chu. “This should be a wake-up call.”

ActBlue reached $20 million in donations in just 24 hours after the Supreme Court ruling. ActBlue is self-described as “a powerful online fundraising platform for up-and-down-the-ballot Democratic candidates, progressive organizations and nonprofits.”

The Democratic National Committee, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee quickly launched a national volunteer organizing effort aimed at channeling Democratic activism on the issue into coordinated campaigns for party candidates in key races.
