Man in hospital with life-threatening condition after assault

A MAN is fighting for his life after suffering “very serious head injuries” in an attack in Boscombe on Thursday night.

Police and an ambulance were called to the scene on Christchurch Road in Boscombe at 9.52pm on Thursday.

Police said the victim, a 67-year-old local man, was severely assaulted, falling to the ground and knocked unconscious by another man.

The 67-year-old man was taken to hospital by ambulance, where his life is in danger. His next of kin have been notified.

The male suspect also reportedly assaulted another male who suffered cuts and bruises.

A police cordon was in place for most of Friday morning

A woman who tried to intervene and help was also knocked to the ground by the suspect.

He then stole an electric scooter from another man before driving away from the scene towards the Pokesdown area.

The offender is described as white, with a large build and short dark hair. He was wearing a gray tracksuit.

A police presence remained in place overnight, with two officers still stationed at the cordon throughout Friday morning.

No arrests have been made.

Detective Inspector Sean Inkpen, of Bournemouth CID, said: “We are carrying out a number of inquiries to establish the full circumstances of the incident, which left a man with very serious head injuries.

“I am appealing for any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police to come forward as they can help with our investigation.

“I also want to speak to the woman who tried to intervene to find out if she suffered any injuries and the man whose electric scooter was taken. They may have vital information that can help us as well.

“Anyone with information about who the offender may be is asked to contact us urgently, as is anyone who may have relevant CCTV footage.”

The incident happened on Christchurch Road, Boscombe

A witness at the scene said he saw a fight outside a pub and a man lying on the floor unconscious.

Boscombe West councilor Louis Allison added: “I am heartbroken to hear yet again of violent crime taking place in Boscombe.

“I want to thank the members of the community who put themselves at risk to help the man who was attacked.

“I would reiterate the police’s appeals to any witnesses to come forward and encourage Boscombe residents to do what they can to help tackle anti-social behavior by reporting all incidents directly to the police.”

Conservative councilor for Boscombe West, Cllr Jane Kelly, said: “These kinds of incidents happen everywhere and all the time. Not exclusive to Boscombe.

“I am very sorry for the man who was attacked and his family and I hope he has a speedy recovery.”
