Mohammed Nazir, 24, of the Rainbows Across Borders campaign, says he wants to dedicate this year’s Pride to those who are still forced to hide their sexuality.
Nazir says Pride is about “self-assertion, dignity and equality” and it’s a movement “where we’re still fighting for our rights.”
“It’s all thanks to people’s hard work and dedication to not being afraid to express our true identity,” he says, adding that there are still “so many countries where people can’t express their true identity because of the laws of the country, because of the management of the government, or because of the cultures and unbelief.”
He says he would like to dedicate this pride to “those people who are still hiding their sexuality and I would like to send them a message that we didn’t choose to be gay, we were born that way and we should be proud of ourselves because being gay is glamorous and if you hide your sexuality day in and day out you feel stressed and you always have a lack of confidence and a lot of mental issues and when you come out it will help you… be who you are.”
