Tropical Storm Colin is churning near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, with streaks of rain and gusty winds enveloping the coastal Carolinas this holiday weekend.
This storm will affect plans for the 4th of July weekend in the eastern Carolinas.
Colin formed over South Carolina early Saturday morning from a circulation that created bands of rain over coastal Georgia on Friday.
The worst impacts from Colin are likely to be near the coast of the Carolinas.
This new tropical storm will bring the threat of rip currents and storm surge to the coast of the Carolinas and possibly as far north as southeastern Virginia. Stay away from water if possible.
Bands of heavy rain will swirl along these coasts this weekend. An additional 1 to 2 inches of rain is expected, with isolated amounts of up to 4 inches.
Given that Colin is on land, the possibility of intensification is quite low, meaning the threat of damaging winds is also low. But gusty winds will appear on bands of rain that come ashore.
A tropical storm warning is in effect from the South Santee River in South Carolina to Duck, North Carolina and for Pamlico Sound, where winds are likely to exceed 40 mph this weekend in these tropical rain bands.
