The Blue Jays announced Sunday before their game against the Tampa Bay Rays that first base coach Mark Budzinski will be away from the team following the death of his oldest daughter, Julia.

“The Budzinskis have been part of our Blue Jays family for the past four seasons,” Jays executive vice president of baseball operations and general manager Ross Atkins said in a statement released by the team. “This devastating loss is felt throughout our organization and we grieve with Bud and his family.

“I have known Bud for over 25 years and have always admired his dedication as a father and husband. He is loved and respected by our entire club and holds a special place in all of our hearts.”
The Jace family added: “Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark and (his wife) Monica and their children Josh and Lily at this time.”
Budzinski and Jays manager Charlie Montoyo left Saturday night’s game against Tampa at Rogers Center and were not available to the media following the 11-5 loss.
