Jan. 6 hearings updates – live: Liz Cheney warns Trump not prosecuted would lead to ‘more serious’ threat

Trump attacks ex-White House aide

Since Jan. 6, the committee’s vice chairman, Liz Cheney, has rejected the idea that prosecuting a former president would inflame political tensions in America. Deflecting potential criminal activity would lead to a “more serious” threat, the congresswoman said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Trump could announce a 2024 bid for the White House as soon as this month, according to a new report from The New York Times.

The poll shows a narrowing of the gap with Ron DeSantis, and other aides to potential candidates told the AP they are feeling increasingly encouraged.

As speculation of support swings grew, Mr. Trump lashed out at Ms. Hutchinson on the Truth Social and in an interview with Newsmax. Calling her a “freak job”, Mr Trump questioned whether she had actually told the truth under oath. He also claims she asked for a job when he left for Florida when he left the post.

Her testimony that Mr. Trump jumped behind the wheel of a car and grabbed a Secret Service agent when he was told he would not be driven to the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, was denied by Tony Ornato, the former agent who she told her the story.
