A firework injury requires a safety alert from Vermont police

WESTMINSTER, Va. (AP) — Authorities in Vermont say a man was seriously injured Saturday while setting off fireworks.

Vermont State Police said officers responded late Saturday night to a residence in the town of Westminster, located on the New Hampshire border, after a man there suffered “significant” injuries to his arm. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The incident prompted state police to remind that fireworks are illegal in Vermont without a permit.

“The Vermont State Police will be out in full force this holiday weekend making sure people celebrating Independence Day are law abiding,” the agency said in a statement. “The Vermont State Police recommend that you leave fireworks to the professionals and enjoy your holiday weekend safely and responsibly.”
