Adele says she was a “shell of a person” after canceling Vegas residency

Speaking recently to BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs, the superstar singer said she felt like a “shell of a person for a few months” after having to let her fans down.

“I just had to wait it out and just grieve it,” she said. “I guess I’m just grieving the shows and getting over the guilt, but it was brutal.”

Adele tearfully announced the cancellation in January, a day before the eagerly awaited concerts were due to begin.

She now says she “definitely felt everyone’s disappointment” and also felt “devastated” and “scared of letting them down”.

“I thought I could get it together and make it work, but I couldn’t. I stand by this decision,” Adele said. “I don’t think any other artist would have done what I did, and I think that’s why it’s such a massive, massive story.”

“I’m not going to do a show just because I have to or because people will be disappointed or because we’ll lose a lot of money,” she added.

Adele returned to the stage at the weekend to headline London’s BST Hyde Park festival.
