A man has died after the off-road vehicle he was a passenger in overturned in southeastern B.C.
The accident happened in the Summit Trail area of Spion Kop Mountain, about 30 km north of Kelowna.
Lake Country RCMP said they received a call about the crash at 4:15 a.m. Saturday
The victim, a 34-year-old man, was pronounced dead when police arrived.
The driver, who suffered minor injuries, was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving causing death.
Lake Country RCMP Corporal Tammy Lobb said alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. She also said Mounties stopped five impaired drivers the night before the rollover.
“The driver is likely facing charges related to his arrest and the investigation is ongoing,” the RCMP said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this difficult time.
“Impaired driving is not acceptable,” Lobb said, adding that the RCMP will be placing checkpoints in the area to deter the practice.
The British Columbia Coroner’s Office is also investigating the incident, according to RCMP. No further details about the victim’s identity have been released.
