A viral video shows reporter Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., arriving to a chorus of jeers and boos from a mostly Somali crowd at her home in the state over the July 4 weekend.
Omar, 39, appeared at the concert featuring Somali singer Soldaan Seraar at the Target Center in Minneapolis on Saturday night, but not everyone was happy to see her.
Omar shared a 14-second clip of her and her husband, Tim Mynette, taking the stage, but longer videos — which have circulated on social media — include people chanting “get out!” and telling the Democrat to “get out of here .”

The videos don’t show what sparked such a strong reaction, but Newsweek reported that some blamed Omar’s support for abortion and LGBTQ rights for the backlash.

“In almost half of this country, the states are ready to ban abortion,” Omar said at a protest in Union Station. “A total ban on abortion. That means if you’re sick, if you’re raped, there’s incest, you’re forced to have that baby or die.”

Omar also remains a strong supporter of more aggressive legislative measures to protect abortion rights, such as ending the filibuster so Congress can try to codify abortion rights in federal law or expanding the Supreme Court to filled with more liberal judges.
