Helena was hit by a devastating storm Sunday night that downed trees and caused significant flooding in the downtown area.
Photos and videos provided by Helena resident Andy Shurtliff showed water cascading down Last Chance Gulch up to the top of car wheels as people closed the doors of businesses to keep water from entering the establishments.
The Lewis and Clark Library experienced flooding in its building. Maintenance crews quickly got to work removing the water. Dave Schulte told MTN that their priority was to get the moisture out of the building and dry the air as soon as possible to avoid mold being trapped. Damage to the library and collection is still being assessed.

Downed trees and branches could be seen in the center of town. A tree fell through the bus stop at Great Northern Centre.
Moviegoers at the Helena Cinemark report the theater has been evacuated, with water draining into the lobby. Some vehicles were also initially stranded in the lower level of the Great North Parking Garage.
Several streets in the Capitol area experienced flash flooding, with a number of homeowners reporting basement flooding to MTN.
