Stranger Things is undeniably a brilliantly written series, and as a result there are very few plot holes. Like, these writers account for literally everything. But! Fans were briefly confused by Hopper using an upright sword to fight the Demogorgon.

Sleuth-y fan on Twitter and HITC got it, noting that we actually see Enzo open a gun cabinet in Episode 7, which yes: includes the sword. And it turns out that said sword is a very cool easter egg, as it is literally “Atlantean” from the Conan movies starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

And yes, this is the actual sword from Conan, not a replica. David Harbor himself confirmed this in an interview with British GQ, saying: “I don’t know if you saw this, but that sword that I picked up – that’s the actual prop sword that they used in Conan the Barbarian. This is the sword with which Schwarzenegger swings The Movie.”

He also talked about the sword in an Instagram caption, saying: “Geek warning. The prop at the end of episode 9 is the Sword of Atlantis from the CONAN movies. A lovely fan found a picture of when it was created in ep.7 and used by an unfortunate prisoner who met an untimely death near the cells on the side of our gladiator pit. The real excitement behind this though is that the sword that the amazing ST props department gave me (reveal yourselves guys so I can credit you) is the ACTUAL SWORD used in the filming of both CONAN movies. It was heavy as hell and it was a huge honor to hold it. @schwarzenegger – I’m open to your feedback on my technique.”

Hello, this was the latest episode of Stranger Things is the coolest show ever made.
