Outer Banks deputy for Chase Stokes, killed in hit-and-run accident

A stand-in for Chase Stokes on the hit show “Outer Banks” was killed this week in a horrific car crash — while filming of the new season continues in South Carolina.

Alexander ‘AJ’ Jennings, 22, was hit by two cars early Tuesday morning in Charleston, both fleeing the scene. He died as a result of injuries sustained in the double hit-and-run – the medical examiner’s time of death is 3:13 a.m.

According to preliminary reports, Jennings was walking along a major thoroughfare between James Island and Folly Beach when he was struck around 2 a.m. The first vehicle left him for dead, and not long after that… Jennings was apparently hit by a second vehicle, which also split — although that driver was reportedly later pulled over during a traffic stop.

Lifesaving measures were unsuccessful … Jennings succumbed to his injuries. His employer, Kimmy Stewart Casting, confirmed that Jennings worked on “OB” as a photo double/stand-in for John Bee, the main character of the Netflix series played by Chase.

KSC wrote: “I cannot fathom the shock and tragedy of AJ’s sudden loss and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time. I understand that this message may be difficult for those of you who have met and become fast friends with AJ to process.”

The agency adds that Netflix is offering grief counseling to those who need it — as AJ appears to have had many friends on the production. One of those friends, it seems, was Chase himself … who also honored AJ by taking to social media.

He writes: “I’m still trying to figure out why certain things happen and why the world works the ways it does. My heart is broken. Your life was just beginning. We JUST talked about how inspired you are by your tunes, how far you’ll go with that ole 6 string, and wanting to keep creating art. Always warming the hearts of others and being so selfless.” CS went on to say that AJ touched all of their lives, adding … “Fly high angel.”

The Outer Banks reportedly began filming Season 3 earlier this year and is filming on location in Charleston. No charges have yet been filed, and the case is pending.
