US stocks were lower a few minutes ago by the Federal Reserve, which will be scrutinized for information on the state of the economy and the central bank’s efforts to tame inflation by raising interest rates.
The S&P 500 was down 0.4% by early afternoon Wednesday. The broad benchmark rose 0.2% on Tuesday. The Nasdaq Composite edged lower after an initial burst, falling 0.3%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.5%.
