The all-new MacBook Air with M2 is available to order from Friday 8 July

Starting Friday, July 8th at 5am PDT, the fully refreshed MacBook Air with M2 will be available for order and will begin arriving to customers worldwide on Friday, July 15th. Powered by the M2 chip, the all-new MacBook Air features even more performance and a new astonishingly slim design, a larger 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display, a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, a four-speaker sound system, up to 18 hours of battery life1 and MagSafe charging. Now available in four gorgeous finishes—Midnight, Starlight, Silver, and Space Gray—MacBook Air with M2 starts at $1,199 (US) and $1,099 (US) for education.
New design enabled by M2
Completely reimagined around the M2, the MacBook Air has a new design that’s remarkably thin from every angle. With a durable, all-aluminum unibody that feels incredibly strong and is built to last, it’s just 11.3 millimeters thin, weighs just 2.7 pounds, and delivers an astonishing 20 percent reduction in bulk over the previous generation. And with the energy efficiency of the M2, all the capabilities of the MacBook Air are built into a silent, fanless design. In addition to silver and space gray, MacBook Air is now available in two stunning new finishes: midnight and star.
MagSafe provides users with a dedicated charging port that’s easy to connect while protecting the MacBook Air when it’s powered on. MacBook Air also features two Thunderbolt ports for connecting various accessories and a 3.5 mm audio jack with support for high-impedance headphones. In addition, the Magic Keyboard features a full-height function row with Touch ID and a spacious, industry-leading Force Touch trackpad.
A beautiful 13.6-inch liquid retina display
The new MacBook Air features a beautiful 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display that’s been extended closer to the sides and up around the camera to make room for the menu bar. The result is a larger display with much thinner bezels, giving users more screen space to view their content in vivid detail. At 500 nits of brightness, it’s also 25 percent brighter than before. MacBook Air now supports 1 billion colors, so photos and movies look incredibly vivid.
Advanced camera and audio
MacBook Air includes a new 1080p FaceTime HD camera with twice the resolution and low-light performance of the previous generation. Combined with the processing power of the M2’s advanced image signal processor, users will look great during video calls.
The MacBook Air also features a four-speaker sound system. To fit into such a slim design, the speakers and microphones are fully integrated between the keyboard and the display — all while providing an even better audio experience. A three-microphone array captures pure audio using advanced beamforming algorithms, while the speakers create enhanced stereo separation and voice clarity. MacBook Air also supports immersive surround sound for music and movies with Dolby Atmos.
More productivity with M2
The M2 chip ushers in Apple’s next generation of silicon for the Mac, further elevating the revolutionary performance, power efficiency and capabilities of the M1. From multitasking to creating compelling images, MacBook Air with M2 is everything users could want in the world’s best-selling laptop.
- MacBook Air with M2 features a more powerful 8-core CPU and up to 10-core GPU so users can do more, faster.
- With 100 GB/s unified memory bandwidth and support for up to 24 GB of fast unified memory, it can handle even larger and more complex workloads.
- M2 also adds a next-generation media engine with a powerful ProRes video engine for hardware-accelerated encoding and decoding, so MacBook Air with M2 can play more 4K and 8K video streams than before.
- With the M2, intensive workloads such as editing complex graphics in Final Cut Pro are almost 40 percent faster than the previous generation2 and up to 15 times faster for customers who have not upgraded to Apple silicon.3
- Applying filters and effects in apps like Adobe Photoshop is up to 20 percent faster than before2 and up to 5x faster for customers who haven’t yet upgraded to Apple silicon.3
- And even with a larger display and increased performance, MacBook Air delivers the same great all-day battery life as before, with up to 18 hours of video playback.
Only Apple silicon can have this combination of performance and capabilities in such a thin and light notebook in a fanless design.
More boot options
MacBook Air offers a range of charging options, including an all-new 35W compact power adapter with two USB-C ports so users can charge two devices simultaneously. And for the first time, MacBook Air supports fast charging up to 50 percent in just 30 minutes with an optional 67W USB-C power adapter.4
macOS Monterey
With macOS Monterey, MacBook Air offers continuity tools like Universal Control that make it easy for users to work effortlessly on Mac and iPad. FaceTime includes portrait mode and spatial audio to make calls more natural and lifelike, and SharePlay lets Mac users share experiences via FaceTime.5 Live Text and Visual Look Up use intelligence to display useful information, Safari includes powerful organization of tabs with tab groups, and Shortcuts provide the ease of automation on the Mac.
This fall, macOS Ventura will take full advantage of M2, delivering new features including Stage Manager, powerful new capabilities with Continuity Camera, and Handoff coming to FaceTime. macOS Ventura also includes major updates to Safari, Mail, Messages, Spotlight, and more.
Designed with the environment in mind
The new MacBook Air minimizes its impact on the environment by now using 100 percent recycled rare earth elements in all magnets. It also uses 100 percent recycled aluminum in its housing and is the first Apple product to use certified recycled steel. MacBook Air remains free of numerous harmful substances, meets Apple’s high standards for energy efficiency, and uses wood fibers in packaging that come from recycled sources or responsibly managed forests. Today, Apple is carbon neutral for global corporate operations and by 2030 plans to have a net zero climate impact across its entire business, which includes manufacturing supply chains and all product life cycles. This means that every Mac Apple makes, from design to manufacturing, will be 100 percent carbon neutral.
