Embattled former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo reportedly got advice from former President Bill Clinton as he fought for his political life amid multiple sex-crime allegations.

Clinton has faced multiple allegations of sexual assault and was suspended from the House of Representatives after an affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky was revealed.

Cuomo was the subject of a state sexual harassment investigation following allegations from 11 women who worked for the governor. Cuomo eventually resigned from his post last August after a scathing report on the investigation was released by New York Attorney General Letitia James.

The allegations include a range of inappropriate behavior, including him mentioning that he wanted to engage in sexual relations with a young female employee, forced kisses, unwanted sexual acts and more.

The scandal-plagued governor said he “deeply” regrets any behavior deemed inappropriate while in office, but denied the allegations contained in the James report and accused state investigators of bias.

Clinton advised Cuomo during the harassment investigation, suggesting the governor hold a public press conference to address New Yorkers directly in an effort to prevent his resignation, according to an excerpt from the book Any Given Tuesday by Democratic strategist Lis Smith about the events that occurred toward the end of Cuomo’s time in office. An excerpt was published in Politico

After James’ report was released, Smith detailed a call she had with several others, including Clinton, in which the governor’s advisers told him his career was “over.”

Smith says Cuomo didn’t garner any sympathy from people on the call, despite the “one exception” of Clinton, who said she needed to come out and speak directly to her constituents about the situation.

However, advisers agreed that if Cuomo held a public event, it would hurt him more than help him, so Clinton’s idea was rejected.

Clinton himself was publicly accused of sexual assault and misconduct by numerous women in the years before, during and after his presidency.

Among the notable sexual misconduct allegations against Clinton: Juanita Broaddrick accused then-Arkansas Attorney General Clinton of raping her in 1978; Kathleen Willey accused him of sexual harassment in the Oval Office in 1993; Paula Jones accused then-Governor Clinton of exposing himself to her in 1991; and Leslie Milwee accused him of sexual assault during an incident in 1980.

Former President Bill Clinton was publicly accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women in the years before, during and after his presidency, and also engaged in a highly publicized affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky.

The former president has denied wrongdoing over the years regarding the allegations.

He was eventually impeached for perjury and obstruction of justice during a federal investigation into the Lewinsky affair.
