David George Hannon, a drunk Florida man who sent a mean email to Ilhan Omar, has escaped prison

Three years ago, a drunken David George Hannon sent an email to Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), threatening to kill her and denigrating her Islamic faith. Now, a federal judge has sentenced the 67-year-old Florida man to three years of probation and ordered him to pay a $7,000 fine and undergo mandatory mental health and substance abuse treatment. Under federal sentencing guidelines, Hannon should have faced 10 months in prison, but the judge noted his high degree of remorse, troubled past and health problems, while saying his email was “disgusting and inappropriate in every way.” In the typo-ridden email, with a subject line that read “You’re Dead, Radical Muslim,” Hannon told Omar that she “WILL DIE AND AMERICANS WILL REJOICE.” Hannon, a former Trump supporter, claimed he had no recollection of writing the email, but nonetheless admitted sending it, though he somehow insisted it wasn’t fueled by hate.
