Medford evacuation order ends after gas plant fire

UPDATE 7/10/22 6:50 p.m.: The evacuation order for the city of Medford has ended following Saturday’s explosion and fire at the ONEOK gas plant.

It’s still unclear what caused it, but ONEOK told News 9 it’s focusing on assessing the damage.

The company said no one was injured.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office said ONEOK has extended hotel accommodations for a second night for anyone who was displaced.

Medford’s evacuation order has been extended following the fire at the ONEOK Gas Plant that occurred Saturday afternoon, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO).

The city government extended the evacuation until 6 p.m. Sunday, according to GSCO.

ONEOK officials said hotel reservations have been extended for tonight for everyone who has been evicted from their residences.

Authorities responded to the ONEOK plant in Grant County after reports of an explosion.

ONEOK confirmed it was aware of the incident in a statement and said all staff were accounted for and there were no reports of injuries.

GCSO asked all residents within a two-mile radius of the plant to evacuate to the Medford Public School building in a Facebook post.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has closed several nearby roads as crews battle the fire. US-81 is closed at Greer Junction about five miles south of Pond Creek and also at Haskell Junction.

US Highway 81 is closed through Medford.

Residents who need a safe place to stay can also go to Jefferson United Methodist Church, Waquita Fire Department, Hawley Baptist Church or the Blackwell Hotel.
