New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took to Twitter Wednesday to call out a mocker who filmed himself verbally harassing the Democrat on the steps of the Capitol in a video that went viral this week. In the selfie-angled clip, Dallas-based right-wing social media personality Alex Stein makes lewd remarks about Ocasio-Cortez from afar, calling her his “favorite big Latina” and accusing her of wanting to “kill babies.”
At one point in the video, Ocasio-Cortez approaches Stein and is heard saying sarcastically, “Why don’t we take a little selfie?” She flashes a peace sign before continuing up the steps of the Capitol.
“I posted about a deeply disgusting incident that happened today on the steps of the Capitol, but I took it down [because] clearly someone seeking extremist fame,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on Twitter. “It’s just sickening to work in an institution that openly allows this, but talking about it only invites more. Just really sad.”

It’s just unpleasant to work in an institution that openly allows this, but talking about it only invites more. Just really sad.

Ocasio-Cortez also posted the video of the incident in a follow-up tweet, which had been viewed more than 3.2 million times as of Thursday afternoon. “I was actually going to break it because if no one is going to protect us I’m going to do it myself, but I needed to catch a vote more than a chance today,” she wrote.
In a clip shared on Instagram, Ocasio-Cortez claims the incident happened in front of a Capitol Police officer who did nothing. “This institution is not designed to protect people,” she said. “It’s really hard and it’s really sad that my only recourse is to just let you know about it, but this is the institution for you.”
Stein responded to Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter, writing “If you really loved me, you would have at least tagged me.” He was also reportedly blocked by the Democrat, but still shared memes about the meeting and thanked Ocasio-Cortez for “making [him] trending on Twitter.”
On Wednesday, Stein posted other videos from the Capitol steps, including one in which he addressed Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) and called him a “fake RINO Republican” and a “scumbag,” among other insults. He also addressed Rep. Jamal Bowman (D-NY) and asked if “Hunter Biden has good taste in hookers.”
Stein is no stranger to such internet antics. Earlier this year, he went viral for urging people to get vaccinated in a rap he performed while dressed in scrubs in front of members of the Dallas City Council. Last month, he filmed himself mocking Rep. Dan Crenshaw and Sen. Ted Cruz at the Texas Republican Convention.
