SAN FRANCISCO — The international terminal at San Francisco International Airport was evacuated Friday night due to a bomb threat and authorities found a potential incendiary device, officials said. One person is in custody.
The bomb threat was called in around 8:15 p.m., and authorities found a suspicious package, according to the San Francisco Police Department. Airport investigators “determined that the object was possibly incendiary.” One man was taken into custody, but no other details were available.
The terminal was evacuated “out of an abundance of caution,” police said. Hundreds of passengers were forced to leave the terminal.
The airport announced the evacuation on Twitter at 9:28 p.m. without providing details about the police activity.
The airport’s AirTrain and Bay Area Rapid Transit trains were suspended. The BART station at the airport was closed at 8:42 p.m., according to a tweet from the transit agency.
Passenger boarding and disembarking was restricted to the domestic terminals of the airport.
Additional information was not immediately available. An airport spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
