Bay Ferries cancels Fundy Rose crossing for 3 days

Bay Ferries Limited has canceled all Fundy Rose sailings between Saint John, NB and Digby, NS until at least Tuesday due to mechanical issues.

The company initially canceled four Saturday crossings on Saturday.

On Saturday afternoon, the company announced that repairs, including welding, would be required before the vessel could return to service.

The remaining canceled departures are from St John at 8am and 2.15pm on Sunday and Monday, and from Digby at 11am and 5.30am on the same days.

In addition to today’s sailings, all Fundy Rose sailings on July 17 & July 18 have been canceled as we work to resolve the issue.

We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and are working 24/7 to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

Mark Wilson, senior vice president of Bay Ferries, said the problems only affect Fundy Rose. He said the main problem was with the loading dock.

One of the hydraulic ramp operating cylinders needed repair, and the nose landing door ramp was inoperative, a later afternoon announcement confirmed.

Passengers with reservations for canceled crossings will be refunded when they try to rebook, Wilson said.

“We realize this is peak season and apologize for any inconvenience to our customers,” Wilson said. “But we are working as fast as we can to fix this and get back to sailing as soon as possible.”
