Ricky Martin has spoken out about his nephew’s dismissed sexual assault charges, calling the case “devastating for me, for my family, for my friends. I don’t wish this on anyone.” Earlier this month, the singer’s nephew filed a restraining order against him. A judge issued the order under Puerto Rico’s Domestic Violence Prevention and Intervention Act after the nephew claimed he had been romantically involved with Martin for seven months and “feared for his safety.” Today (July 21), the restraining order was lifted after the nephew said he no longer needed the protection order.
“Truth prevails,” Martin tweeted this morning, with a statement from his lawyers attached.
Just as we expected, the temporary protection order was not extended by the court. The prosecutor confirmed to the court that his decision to dismiss the case was his alone, without any outside influence or pressure, and the prosecutor confirmed that he was satisfied with his legal representation in the matter. The request came from the prosecutor asking for the case to be dismissed. This was never more than a troubled individual making false claims with absolutely nothing to back them up. We are glad that our client has seen justice and is now able to move forward with his life and career.
Martin also shared a video with various media outlets, saying, “I wish the person who claims this nonsense the best and find the help to start a new life filled with love and truth and joy, and he doesn’t hurt no one else.”
He concluded: “Now my priority is to heal myself. And how do I heal? With music. I can’t wait to get back on stage.”
