MISSOURI CITY, Texas (KTRK) – An 11-year-old girl who was the subject of a statewide Amber Alert was found alive Friday night after going missing in the early morning hours.
Imani Stevens has been located by the FBI, Houston police and Missouri City police, the Houston bureau’s office tweeted.
“She was found around 9:30 p.m. in southeast Houston. No additional information will be released at this time,” the FBI tweeted.
Stevens went missing from Missouri City and police believed she was in serious or imminent danger.
Her disappearance caused some confusion among law enforcement throughout the day.
In an initial bulletin, the Texas Department of Public Safety said Imani was taken by a 28-year-old, but officers later updated the information to include an entirely different suspect. They explained that the men had the same name but were two different people.
Then, just before Eyewitness News went on the air with an update, Missouri City police told ABC13 that both individuals have been ruled out of the case, adding that the vehicles described in the earlier bulletins were also not accurate.
An updated Amber Alert was issued in the afternoon with no information about the kidnappers. The vehicle description was also changed, detailing only a newer model, gray pickup truck with Texas license plates.
The girl’s grandmother said her granddaughter met everyone who took her to Discord, an instant messaging app. She added that the same person who took her this morning also took her on July 9th, but we have not confirmed that with law enforcement.
