Apple supplier facing iPhone 14 camera lens quality issues

Last week, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said some of Apple’s suppliers for the iPhone 14’s panel and RAM had experienced quality issues, but this should have limited impact on mass production as the Cupertino-based tech giant diversifies its suppliers from iPhone 14 series to avoid launch delays due to component shortages. Now, however, Kuo is reporting that yet another Apple supplier – Genius – is facing quality issues, this time related to the iPhone 14’s rear lenses.

Kuo says one of Genius’ iPhone 14 rear lenses likely suffered from coating quality issues, which led to the transfer of about 10 million lens orders to Largan to avoid delays in iPhone 14 shipments, as with the Taiwanese company able to fill the supply gap.

The analyst said Genius should be able to fix the coating crack issue within two months, and if it doesn’t, Largan will receive more orders from Apple for the lenses.

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 14 series in September, which is rumored to consist of four models – iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. There will be no Mini version. Unless Apple faces supply issues affecting mass production, the iPhone 14 lineup will go on sale as planned.
