Google has updated its Maps app, adding a bunch of new features. However, the most highlighted is the location sharing feature of Google Maps. You can share this feature with your friends or loved ones in real time and it will save your life in emergency. Now you’re going to say you already had this feature, so what’s new in the latest update? Amazingly, this major update to Google Maps will share your location with your friends and family and they will be alerted of arrivals and departures at certain locations. Clearly, this is an amazing update that will help ensure user safety and security.
“With new location sharing notifications, you can see when a loved one has arrived or left a location, so you can more easily coordinate schedules and have peace of mind,” Google Maps product director Amanda Leicht Moore said in a blog. “If they’ve already chosen to share their location with you, you can set a notification for the concert venue’s address so you can see when they’ve arrived and meet up quickly.” This means that in the event of an emergency, your loved ones will at least know where you are heading and whether you have reached and passed certain areas on your way.
Well, Google has ensured that it keeps privacy intact along with the new update. It says notifications can only be set for someone you’ve already chosen to share the location with. This means that as long as you update to the latest Google Maps update, your app will be equipped with this new feature.

Also, there is another update for cyclists. Google Maps now provides more detailed information about cycling routes. This will be a big relief for cyclists as the app will now show a breakdown of the road along with other information such as heavy vehicular traffic, stairs and steep hills coming your way.
However, the 3-D aerial view and location sharing feature is already rolling out for Google Maps users on Android as well as iOS devices, while this cycling route information feature is coming in a few weeks.
