The Toronto International Film Festival has announced its official lineup for this year with the event in full swing and in person – 260 feature films, 18 galas, 45 special presentations, press conferences, full theaters with no masks and no proof of vaccination required.
We’re kicking off with some big premieres and there’s Rian Johnson’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans, Sam Mendes’ Empire of Light, Billy Eichner’s Bros, Sebastian’s The Wonder Lelio, Harry Styles’ My Policeman, Viola Davis’ The Woman King, Jennifer Lawrence’s Causeway, Henry Selick’s animated Wendell & Wild and Nicolas Cage’s Western Butcher’s Crossing.
There will be premieres of films opening for the first time in Venice, such as Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale, Martin McDonough’s The Banshees of Inisherin, Florian Zeller’s The Son and Peter Farrelly’s The Greatest Beer Run Ever .
Other films include Lena Dunham’s Catherine Called Birdy, Tyler Perry’s A Jazzman’s Blues, Joanna Hogg’s The Eternal Daughter, Sanaa Lathan’s On the Come Up, Catherine Hardwicke’s Prisoner’s Daughter, The Stephen Frears’ Lost King, Sarah Polley’s Women Talking, Brett Morgen’s Bowie doco Moonage Daydream and Sally El Hosaini’s The Swimmers, which will open the festival.
There’s also Anna Kendrick in Alice, Darling, Eric Bana in Blueback, Ethan Hawke and Ewan McGregor in Raymond and Ray, Lily James and Emma Thompson in Shekhar Kapur and Jane Fonda’s What’s Love Got to Do with It? and Lily Tomlin in “Moving On.”
Plus, there are some big movies already locked in for release this fall, like Devotion with Jonathan Majors and Glenn Powell, Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne in The Good Nurse, and Anya Taylor-Joy and Ralph Fiennes in The “ ” menu.
International films include Park Chan-wook’s Decision to Leave, Ruben Östlund’s Triangle of Sadness, Hirokazu Kore-eda’s Broker, Mia Hansen-Løve’s One Fine Morning, Jafar Panahi’s No Bears , Lee Jung-jae’s thriller Hunt, Jung Woo-sung’s A Man of Reason, Alice Diop’s Saint Omer, Ali Abbasi’s Holy Spider, Marie Kroutzer’s Corsage and Other People’s Children by Rebecca Zlotowski.
This year’s Toronto Film Festival will be held from September 8 to 18.
