Five Toronto District School Board seniors are among the first ever to post 100 percent grade point averages in their senior year of class.
Nina Do of Humberside Collegiate Institute, Pasha Ho of Harbord Collegiate Institute, Avaneesh Kulkarni of Victoria Park Collegiate Institute, Sienna Muller of Etobicoke School of the Arts and Kyle Sung of Richview Collegiate Institute posted impressive marks in their top six Grade 12 classes in the 2021-22 academic year.
A very humble Mueller and Sung stopped by CP24 Thursday morning to discuss their academic success and plans for the future.
Sung — who can remarkably set a Rubik’s cube in just 10 seconds — finished his senior year with a host of extracurricular activities, including national-level figure skating, playing multiple instruments, and writing and performing original music.
“I love learning…whether I’m learning to write songs or learning to skate. It just feels great,” Sung said.
Müller, meanwhile, is a classical ballet dancer who divides her time between the stage and the textbooks. She says she plans to pursue a career in science, but still manages to make time every day to dance during her senior year.
“In the end, though to be honest I probably love them both [arts and sciences] I also decided to go into science because I think I can make a real impact there,” Mueller said.
As for how they achieved the 100 percent averages, Mueller and Sung agreed that the support they received from their parents, classmates and teachers was paramount to their success.
“I certainly had a lot of help from my teachers. I think it’s important to never be afraid to ask for help and get extra help because there are so many amazing teachers out there that if you say, “can you go over this math problem with me,” “hey, I need help with that scientific concept, “will be there,” Mueller said.
Four of the top five scholars were at TDSB headquarters Thursday morning, where they talked about their academic achievements and discussed learning during a pandemic and their plans for next year.
