Mount Pearl’s municipal workers’ strike enters its third week with no resolution in sight.
Both the City of Mount Pearl and CUPE Local 2099 say negotiations are at a standstill, with neither side budging so far.
There is also growing tension over the pickets’ alleged disrespectful behavior.
Mayor Dave Acker says the RNC was called when non-picketing workers were prevented from entering City Hall.
And he says a recent incident in which the city’s flag was flown at half-mast is disrespectful.
Meanwhile, union president Ken Turner says picketing has been “impossible”.
He says the union would have contacted the police if there had been illegal picketing.
Turner described some of the city’s accusations as “weird rhetoric” that blocked a deal.
