A male pedestrian was killed by an alleged impaired driver overnight in northwest Toronto

An elderly man died after a suspected hit-and-run collision early Saturday morning near the 401 and 400 freeways.

The crash happened at 3:35 a.m. in the Pelmo Park-Humberlea area, near Wilson Avenue West and Clayson Road.

Toronto police say a driver hit a pedestrian and fled the scene.

The driver, an unnamed 42-year-old man, was located a short time later and charged with impaired driving.

The victim was rushed to hospital with life-threatening conditions and pronounced dead.

At the moment, there are no reports of other victims, the police said.

Roads in the immediate vicinity are affected while the investigation continues.
