No one was injured after a small plane crashed in Ottawa’s south end

A pilot escaped unhurt after their small plane crashed in a farmer’s field on the south edge of Ottawa.

Emergency crews responded to reports of a plane crash in a field on South Gower Drive at around 12pm on Saturday. The area is south of Osgoode.

The Ontario Provincial Police said the pilot reported an engine failure mid-air due to a fuel leak and crash landed in a farm field.

“The experienced pilot was forced to make an emergency landing after an engine failure in mid-air due to a fuel leak, landed in a farm field,” the OPP said.

No injuries were reported.

Ottawa Fire says the pilot told firefighters they didn’t think they would be able to make it back to the runway due to a mid-air fuel problem and decided to try to land in a field.

The plane has a broken wing.

Firefighters worked quickly to contain the fuel leak with 40 gallons of fuel on board the plane.
