In a news release Saturday, police said officers responded to the area of Calgary Trail and 41st Avenue just before 2 a.m. after receiving a report of a serious collision.
They found a damaged Honda Accord with a male driver who was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. The car appeared to have struck a light pole, police said, adding that speed was likely a factor in the crash.
The Edmonton Police Service’s Major Collision Investigation Unit is still investigating. Anyone with information about the crash or relevant dashcam footage is being asked to contact police.
The man’s name has not been released publicly and the message did not include other details about the collision.
