Rafael Alves continued to push his luck against the fence until Drew Dober made him pay in the UFC 277 prelims.
A body shot from Dober folded Alves at 1:30 of the third after the Brazilian deftly dodged shots and fired in the same look. It was Daubert’s second straight win to the finish after several setbacks.
Check out the stoppage win below.
Alves threw quite a few looks at Dober in the first round, firing a capoeira jab that barely missed the mark in the first. He burst into a takedown and nearly grabbed Daubert’s neck, forcing the American to play defense.
The fast pace of the first took its toll on Alves, who spent most of the second round dodging Daubert’s jabs at the fence instead of attacking. However, an accidental jab to the eye from Daubert was like an energy drink for Alves, who burst into action again, swinging and landing a huge left hand that briefly rocked Daubert.
The third round was shaping up to be another wild brawl with both fighters throwing heavy leather close to the cage. However, Dober had a more varied choice of targets and went to the body when Alves covered his head. This provided the opening for the fight-ending body shot, which had a funny effect as it went to Alves’ brain.
Alves goes back to the drawing board after a first-round submission of Mark Diakiese in his previous appearance this November at UFC Vegas 42.
