A man has died after falling into Lake Ontario while tubing near St. Catharines, police said

A 37-year-old Mississauga man has died after falling into Lake Ontario, the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) said.

Emergency personnel were contacted around 7:40 p.m. Sunday about a man missing in the water near Port Dalhousie in St. Catharines, Ontario.

Police say their initial investigation found that a boat was towing a tube when it capsized and the man riding the tube went into the water and did not resurface.

Shortly after midnight on Monday, officers from the NRPS Marine / Under Water Search and Recovery Unit found the man’s body not far from where he was last seen.

Forensics and the medical examiner have arrived at the scene and an autopsy has been scheduled.

Police say the man’s identity is not being released and the death is not being treated as suspicious.
